When Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records wanted to do a Beach Music album in 1967, he worked with Charlie Brown. Charlie has played and/or followed Beach Music and Rhythm & Blues music all his life. He hosted the popular evening time slot on WKIX in Raleigh from 1964 to 1970. He regularly hosted dances and emceed concerts with the other KIX "Men of Music" in the Triangle area. He has also worked in radio sales and was General Manager of WKIX. Charlie was partners with Larry Crockett and Barrie Bergman of the Record Bar in Beach Beat Records, the first company to sell Beach Music albums and tapes using television advertising. Charlie is also a member of the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame and serves on the Carolina Beach Music Awards Advisory Board. |
